He reaches for her.
Like he always does.
He finds her elbow, cradles it, then lingers there.
Like he always does.
Heย steps forward, hesitates, then rocks back onto his heels.
Like he always does.
He grunts in frustration, shakes his head, then frowns.
Like he always does.
As for her?
She holds her breath, waiting for him to move.
Like she always does.
Slowly, a calloused hand slides up the back of her arm. Skims over her shoulder. Sweeps around the column of her neck.
She watches his lips part, close, then part again.
And still holds her breath, waiting for him to speak.
Like she always does.
At last, he says, “Tell me.”
At last, she breathes, “What?”
“About your eyes.”
“You know they’re brown,” she whispers.
“Describe them.”
“I can’t.”
His fingers burrow into her hair. “Try.”
“I really can’t.”
“Please, try.”
“Brown is just brown,” she explains softly.
His face hardens, the square of his jaw visibly tightening.
A long stretch of silence.
And then, “I wish I could see you.”
It always comes back to this.
Every. Single. Time.
He just doesn’t get it, does he?
With an exasperated sigh, she pulls away. Grabs him by the wrist. Presses his palm firmly to her chest.
“What are you doing?” he asks.
Ignoring his question, she replies with her own, “Do you feel that?”
He arches a brow. “Your breast?”
She rolls her eyes. “My heart, you pervert.”
Finally, he breaks into a crooked grin. “Yeah, I feel it.”
“Then you see me.”

A great take as usual!! This week’s prompt could have easily become overly sweet or/and melodramatic but I think you successfully avoided it!
I was so positively surprised that you didn’t finish with this sentence: “He just doesnโt get it, does he?” (although this could have also been an ending) because after that the story got real good! Your ending was like a punchline – unexpected and deep!
