“Of course, you didn’t. Why would you?”

I realize this warrants some sort of response. At the very least, I owe him an apology. But the pain in his expression has me tongue-tied.

And heartsick.

“You always assume the worst of me,” he mutters bitterly.

Well, that’s odd. My heart suddenly feels better and my tongue’s magically untied itself, “Maybe because you threatened me.”

His eyes widen. “What?”

My eyes narrow. “You said you came for Noah.”

“Jesus Christ,” he sighs. “Is that what’s got your panties in a knot?”

Obviously.

“I would never take him from you.”

“But you said…”

“I was talking out of my ass.” Roughly grasping my face, Twitch drags me onto my tiptoes. He could likely crush my skull with his bare hands. “I would never take him from you, okay?”

I swallow hard. “Okay.”

His mouth hovers inches from mine. “Would you keep him from me?”

The question has me tearing up all over again.

“Would you, Sid?”

“No,” I whisper.

“Good,” he says, brushing the lightest kiss to my lips. “Now where do we go from here?”

I really don’t know.
