WEEK 5: Trailing my finger across your skin

“Cut it out.”

“Hm?”

“Just cut it out.”

I finish reading the sentence before glancing over at you.

You’re frowning in disapproval. Scowling, even.

“Cut what out?” I ask.

Your scowl deepens, eyes darkening a shade.

Tilting my head to one side, I raise a brow quizzically and repeat, “Cut what out?”

With a flippant gesture toward your lap, you grumble, “That.”

Suddenly, it dawns on me what you’re referring to.

It’s a bad habit of mine.

Although, it’s partly your fault too.

Because you always come to bed in nothing but your boxers. And we always sit side-by-side, leaning back against the headboard. You always watch TV. I always read.

The other thing I always tend to do is trace circles on your leg. Absentmindedly. I have no idea why because…

“I can’t feel that,” you mutter quietly.

Like I said, it’s a bad habit of mine.

One that I have absolutely zero intention of ever changing.

I set my book down, spine-side up. Then I snuggle into your side and lean closer until my lips almost brush yours.

Almost. But not quite. Because I’d never kiss an…

“Idiot.”

A flash of surprise lights up your eyes before you narrow them. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

It’s a long moment before you sigh. “It’s just weird, okay?”

“What?”

Another long moment. Another loud sigh. “You know what.”

Grinning mischievously, I reach for your bare thigh. “Me touching you?”

Your voice lowers to a soft whisper, “Only where I can’t feel it.”

Trailing my finger across your skin, I say…

“No, but you can damn well see it, can’t you?”
